Senate Committee studies rural poverty

Senator Ringuette is inviting all interested parties to join her colleagues on February 21, 2007 at the Château Edmundston where the Standing Senate Committee on Agriculture and Forestry will be holding public hearings to study into the causes, consequences and solutions to rural poverty.

“I am pleased that my Senate colleagues will be in Edmundston to listen the population of my area. This is their only public meeting held in New Brunswick. Unfortunately, as I am sitting on two other Committees that week I will be unable to attend the public hearings, but I will be sharing my thoughts on our current economic situation with them.” stated Senator Ringuette.

The Committee will be pleased to hear, and even encourages, anyone share their personal experiences with rural poverty. Anyone interested in doing a presentation for the Committee has to keep them between three to five minutes long and should register before with Jessica Richardson, the Committee’s Clerk, by phone at 613-990-6087 or by e-mail at richaj@sen.parl.gc.ca, or on site on the day of the event.

“I hope that people living in the Northwestern region of New Brunswick will accept the Committee’s invitation and either share their personal experiences or simply attend the public hearings. This is not only a great opportunity for our region, but it’s also a great opportunity for everyone to get their thoughts and concerns on rural poverty heard by this Committee” declared Senator Ringuette
